Description

Function and technical context

The ZF disc plate anode is a cathodic protection element designed specifically for ZF brand marine gearboxes and transmissions, manufactured from zinc to provide an effective galvanic barrier against electrolytic corrosion. Its main mission is to sacrifice itself in a controlled manner in the presence of galvanic currents, protecting the critical metal surfaces of the transmission - housings, shafts and aluminum alloy components - against the progressive attack of salt or brackish water. Without cathodic protection in good condition, galvanic degradation can compromise the structural integrity of the transmission, leading to leaks, shaft play or even catastrophic gearbox failure. The reference TEN06001 corresponds to the disc plate geometry, which allows secure fixation and reliable electrical contact with the surface to be protected.

When to replace this part?

Zinc anodes should be inspected at least at the beginning and end of each boating season, and replaced when they have lost between 50% and 70% of their mass, have an irregular surface with deep pits, or have partially detached from the support. A clear warning sign is the appearance of visible corrosion on the aluminum surfaces of the ZF transmission, indicating that the anode no longer provides sufficient protection. Naval mechanics recommend preventively replacing the disc plate anode at each annual beaching, since the cost of this consumable is minimal compared to the repair or replacement of a ZF gearbox damaged by galvanic corrosion.
