This gasket is part of the engine water pump assembly, sealing the interface between the internal components of the cooling system. Its mission is to prevent coolant leaks at critical pump joints, ensuring that the circulating water flow maintains the engine temperature within safe parameters. A poor seal causes coolant losses, reduced cooling flow and, consequently, overheating of the engine block, which can lead to seizure and irreversible damage to the cylinder head and cylinders.

When to replace this part?

Water pump seals deteriorate due to compression of the elastomeric material, especially in engines subjected to frequent thermal variations or with several years of operation. The most obvious symptoms are moisture stains or dripping under the pump, gradual loss of coolant without identifying visible leaks in hoses, and in advanced cases, steam from the engine during navigation. It is recommended to replace this gasket preventively every 4-5 years or if any sign of leakage is observed, since a failure during navigation can leave the vessel without cooling capacity, forcing an emergency return to port.
