Function and technical context

The 95 mm shaft collar is a boat driveline component whose mission is to fix or limit the axial displacement of the tail shaft, keeping it correctly positioned within the propulsion system. It works in the mechanical transmission zone between the engine and propeller, working with the stopper, thrust bearing and stuffing box to ensure that the shaft rotates in precise alignment. If this collar wears, loosens or fails, the shaft can shift longitudinally, causing abnormal vibrations, accelerated wear of the line bearings and, in extreme cases, compromised sealing of the shell in the stern tube.
