Description

Function and technical context

The collar anode for three-blade GORI propellers acts as cathodic protection of the transmission shaft in motor boats, sacrificing itself electrochemically to preserve the surrounding metal parts - shaft, propeller and horn - against galvanic corrosion produced by contact with seawater. Made of zinc (ZN), this type of anode is specifically designed for use in saltwater environments, where electrolytic activity is more aggressive. The collar mounts directly on the propeller shaft in diameters between 22 and 26 mm, integrating with the geometry of the GORI three-blade propeller to ensure effective protective coverage over the entire hub area and exposed shaft. If the anode is completely consumed without being replaced, the corrosive process will directly attack the shaft and propeller, causing pitting, loss of material and, in advanced cases, irreversible deterioration of the propulsion assembly.

When to replace this part?

The clearest symptom of exhaustion is the visible reduction in the volume of the anode: when it has lost approximately 50% of its mass, it must be replaced immediately, without waiting for it to disappear completely. The usual maintenance guideline for zinc anodes on propellers and shafts is to check them at least once a season—or every time the boat goes into dry dock—and their preventive replacement is recommended at the beginning of each new nautical season, especially in areas with high water conductivity. Renewing the collar anode before it is completely consumed is the most economical and effective measure to avoid costly damage to the GORI shaft and propeller, components whose repair or replacement requires a much higher outlay.
