Description

Function and technical context

Thinner No. 2 is a surface preparation chemical product used in boat painting and maintenance work, designed to adjust the viscosity of compatible paints, enamels and antivegetative agents, guaranteeing uniform application and correct adhesion on hulls and metal or fiber structures. It is used both in cleaning processes of tools and application equipment (brushes, rollers and spray guns) and in the pre-dilution of nautical finishing products that require a specific consistency depending on the chosen application method. Its correct use is decisive to obtain homogeneous layers without bubbles, dripping or loss of protective properties of the paint, critical aspects in marine environments where continuous exposure to salt water, humidity and UV radiation is constant.

When to use or replace this product?

It is advisable to have No. 2 thinner whenever work is undertaken to paint the hull, renew the antifouling layer or apply deck enamels, especially at the beginning of each nautical season or after beaching the boat for maintenance. A clear sign that the diluent has lost its properties is the appearance of a gelatinous consistency, the separation of components in the container or a different smell than usual, indicating that the product has been contaminated or has exceeded its useful life. Having a container in good condition before starting any painting job avoids poor finishes that require you to go over areas or remove poorly applied layers, which represents an additional cost in time and materials.
