NGK BPR7ES SPARK PLUG
Description
Function and technical context
The spark plug is the component responsible for generating the electrical spark that ignites the fuel and air mixture inside the combustion chamber of the outboard engine. It works in the ignition system, acting in sync with the electronic ignition to ensure complete and efficient combustion in each engine cycle. A bad spark plug causes irregular combustion that results in loss of power, increased fuel consumption and difficulties in starting the engine. The NGK BPR7ES reference is manufactured with electrodes that are highly resistant to the extreme conditions of temperature and vibration typical of two- and four-stroke marine engines.
When to replace this part?
The most common symptoms of a worn or faulty spark plug include difficult or impossible cold starting, jerking and backfiring at low rpm, unstable idling and a noticeable increase in fuel consumption. In outboard engines, it is recommended to check the spark plugs at least once a season or every 100 hours of navigation, replacing them preventively when the electrode shows visible erosion, carbon deposits or the separation between electrodes exceeds the values indicated by the manufacturer. Changing the spark plug preventively during early-season maintenance is one of the most economical measures to avoid a breakdown with an engine stopped at sea.
