Description

Function and technical context

This plate anode for Kamewa thrusters acts as cathodic protection against galvanic corrosion, sacrificing itself to protect the metal surfaces of the thruster and casing from the destructive effects of salt or brackish water. Integrated directly on the Kamewa propeller plate, it is part of the boat's passive anti-corrosion protection system, covering areas especially exposed to electrical potential differences between different metals. Without adequate anodic protection, the structural components of the propeller—such as the shaft, casing or fins—suffer accelerated corrosion, compromising the mechanical integrity of the propulsion system and generating breakdowns that are costly to repair in dry dock. The reference TEN02454 precisely identifies this plate anode, guaranteeing dimensional and metallurgical compatibility with the Kamewa thrusters for which it has been designed.

When to replace this part?

The clearest symptom that a plate anode needs replacement is the visible reduction in its mass: when the anode has consumed approximately 50% of its volume, it must be replaced without delay, since below that threshold it stops effectively protecting the adjacent metal areas. The inspection and change of anodes must be carried out at least once per nautical season, or more frequently if the vessel operates in waters with high electrical conductivity or port areas with high galvanic currents. Preventatively replacing the TEN02454 anode at each grounding prevents serious corrosion damage to the Kamewa propeller, which is considerably more expensive to repair or replace than the anode itself.
