GREY PRIMER

Description
Function and technical context
This specific primer for outboard motors and sterndrives acts as an anchoring base coat, preparing the metal surface for the subsequent application of enamels or finishing paints. It works directly on the surfaces of the engine block, tail casing and aluminum or steel components exposed to the marine environment, where salt corrosion and constant humidity generate accelerated deterioration. Its gray formulation provides excellent adhesion on bare, treated or lightly oxidized metals, ensuring that the subsequent finishing coat does not flake or lose adhesion with use. Without proper primer, engine enamels applied directly to bare metal peel off easily, leaving the component exposed to corrosion and premature deterioration that can compromise the structural integrity of the propeller.
When to apply this primer?
It is recommended to apply this primer whenever peeling, bubbles or loss of adhesion is detected in the engine paint or glue, as well as after any mechanical intervention that has left metal surfaces exposed. As a preventive guideline, it is advisable to include the review and touch-up of the engine's protective paint system in each seasonal maintenance, especially on boats that navigate in salt waters. Correctly applying this primer before the finishing enamel prevents corrosion cycles that, in the long term, involve much higher cost structural repairs.
