ANODE PLATE 1.46Kg.
Description
Function and technical context
The sacrificial plate anodes are part of the boat's cathodic protection system, acting as an active element that preferentially corrodes to preserve the noble metal parts of the hull, propeller, shafts and submerged accessories. This type of anode in plate format is installed directly on flat surfaces of the hull or underwater structure, offering a large contact surface that guarantees uniform distribution of the electrochemical protection in the surrounding area. Its function is essential in salty and brackish waters, where galvanic corrosion acts especially aggressively on aluminum, bronze and stainless steel alloys. If the anode is completely consumed without being replaced in time, galvanic corrosion will directly attack the structural and mechanical parts of the boat, generating costly and irreparable damage to propellers, shafts, hull closures and structures of the outboard or inboard motor.
When to replace this part?
The main indicator that a plate anode needs replacement is the visible loss of mass: when the anode has consumed approximately 50% of its volume, it should be replaced before it loses effective protective capacity. The review and inspection of the anodes should be carried out at least once per nautical season, ideally at each beaching or careening, and in vessels that frequently sail in waters with high electrical conductivity or with several metals in contact, the inspection frequency should be greater. Replacing the plate anode preventively is the most economical maintenance measure to avoid high-cost structural repairs that always arise at the worst time.
