Description

Function and technical context

The PF2 sacrificial anode with dimensions 190x50x25 mm is an essential component within the cathodic protection system of boats and outboard or inboard motors. Its mission is to protect the submerged metal parts of the hull, the tail shaft, the engine foot and other structural elements against galvanic corrosion, an electrochemical process that, without control, irreversibly degrades aluminum, bronze and stainless steel alloys in contact with salt or brackish water. By acting as a sacrificial electrode, the anode preferentially oxidizes instead of the structural components of the engine or vessel, preserving its mechanical integrity and extending the useful life of the propulsion assembly. The reference TEN00260 identifies this model precisely, facilitating exact replacement without margin of error.

When to replace this part?

Sacrificial anodes should be visually inspected at least at the beginning and end of each sailing season, and replaced when they have lost approximately 50% of their mass, present a very irregular, cracked or disintegrated surface, or when adjacent metal components begin to show signs of pitting or surface corrosion. In boats that remain in the water continuously or that navigate in waters with high conductivity, the useful life can be significantly reduced, so a quarterly inspection is recommended. Replacing the anode preventively before it is completely consumed is the most effective and economical measure to avoid serious damage to the motor base, shaft or hull, breakdowns that at sea can compromise the safety of the boat.
