ANODE HELMET 218x80 ALUMINUM
Description
Function and technical context
Hull anodes are cathodic protection elements designed to sacrifice electrochemically and protect the submerged metal parts of the vessel from galvanic corrosion. This aluminum anode with dimensions 218x80 mm is designed to be installed directly on the hull of the boat, acting as a sacrificial electrode between the metal of the structure and sea or brackish water. The aluminum alloy composition makes it especially effective in medium-high salinity waters, offering longer-lasting protection than zinc anodes in certain marine environments. Without adequate cathodic protection, the metal of the hull, propeller, shafts and other submerged components are exposed to accelerated corrosion processes that can compromise the structural integrity of the vessel within a few seasons.
When to replace this part?
The clearest indicator that a hull anode needs to be replaced is the loss of between 50% and 75% of its mass: when the anode appears severely reduced, cracked or completely consumed, it has stopped protecting the boat. It is recommended to inspect and replace the hull anodes at least once per nautical season, coinciding with the annual beaching for painting and review of the bottom, regardless of the number of hours of navigation. Replacing the anode preventively is one of the most economical maintenance interventions in relation to the cost of repairing or replacing shafts, propellers or hull structures damaged by galvanic corrosion.
