Description

Function and technical context

This 25 x 13mm replacement zinc is a sacrificial anode designed to protect your boat's submerged metal components from galvanic corrosion, one of the quietest and most destructive enemies in marine environments. It acts as a sacrificial element within the cathodic protection system: being more electronegative than the noble metals of the engine or transmission, it corrodes first, preserving propellers, shafts, engine legs and aluminum or steel casings. Its small format makes it suitable for specific fixing points where localized protection with reduced space is required, such as outboard motor arms, inverters or valve bodies. Without a healthy anode, galvanic corrosion can deteriorate high-cost parts in a single boating season.

When to replace this part?

Zinc anodes should be inspected at least once a season and replaced when they have lost approximately 50% of their mass, have a soft, porous or irregularly eroded surface, or when signs of pitting or discoloration begin to appear on the adjacent metal parts they protect. On vessels that remain in the water continuously or in ports with high electrical activity, it is advisable to check the condition of the anodes every three or four months. Replacing zinc preventively at the beginning of each season is the most economical and sensible practice to avoid replacing structural components of much higher cost.
