Description

Function and technical context

The Hamilton Anode Plate is a cathodic protection element designed specifically for Hamilton Jet propulsion systems, where it acts as an electrochemical sacrifice to preserve the metal surfaces of the waterjet unit from galvanic corrosion. It works in the water-jet propulsion system, continuously exposed to salt or brackish water that passes through the drive duct, where the electrical potential differentials between different metals accelerate degradation if there is no active sacrificial anode. Without this component, the rotor housing, impeller and other structural parts of the Hamilton unit are left unprotected from galvanic attack, which can lead to severe corrosion, loss of structural integrity and costly failures of propulsion components. Reference TEN02523 identifies this anode plate for correct mounting on the motor or housing surface of the corresponding Hamilton system.

When to replace this part?

Sacrificial anodes must be inspected at least at the beginning and end of each nautical season; When the anode has lost approximately 50% of its mass or presents an irregular, porous and very whitish surface, it is time to replace it without delay. In boats that regularly navigate in waters with high salinity or that remain moored for long periods, wear can be significantly faster, so quarterly inspection is recommended. Replacing the anode preventively before it is completely consumed prevents the noble metals of the Hamilton unit from being exposed to galvanic corrosion, damage that can multiply the repair cost compared to simply changing the plate.
