Function and technical context

Quicksilver 4T 10W30 oil is a four-stroke engine lubricant specifically formulated for marine outboard engines, where working conditions are more demanding than in land applications: constant humidity, frequent starts, variable speeds and exposure to marine corrosion. It acts on the engine's internal lubrication system, forming a protective film on the crankshaft, connecting rods, pistons, camshaft and all elements subject to friction. Its 10W30 viscosity guarantees adequate fluidity both in cold starts and under full thermal load, protecting it against premature wear throughout navigation. Inadequate or degraded lubricant in a four-stroke marine engine can cause accelerated wear of internal parts, loss of compression, overheating of the assembly and, in severe cases, engine seizure.

When to change the oil?

For four-stroke outboard engines, the usual oil change interval is between 100 hours of use or once a season, whichever comes first, although it is always a good idea to consult the engine manual to confirm the exact interval depending on the model. The most common signs that the oil has lost its properties are: dark or blackish color on the dipstick, presence of foam or cloudiness (possible entry of water), burning smell or high lubricant consumption between changes. Performing a preventive oil change at the beginning or end of each nautical season is the most cost-effective measure to avoid costly internal breakdowns and prolong the life of the outboard motor.
