The engine base gasket, also known as the cylinder block gasket, is a critical sealing element that seals the joint between the engine block and the mounting base on 4-stroke outboard engines. It works in the engine's lubrication and cooling system, preventing oil and coolant from draining outwards and seawater from entering the internal chambers of the engine. Its degradation or breakage compromises the integrity of the lubricating film, favors accelerated oxidation of internal components and can cause the entry of salt water, causing corrosion and loss of power in high-altitude navigation.
