The impeller is the central component of the cooling water pump in Yamaha marine engines. It is a turbine fitted with blades that rotates inside the pump casing, sucking water from the hull inlet and propelling it through the internal galleries of the engine to dissipate the heat generated during combustion. This element works continuously while the engine is in operation, being responsible for maintaining constant circulation of the coolant. Without an impeller in optimal condition, water flow is severely compromised, causing progressive overheating of the block, dramatic loss of power delivery and imminent risk of cylinder seizure.

When to replace this part?

Impellers should be inspected regularly for erosive wear, blade fractures or geometry deformation, signs that greatly reduce pumping capacity. A preventive change is recommended every 200 to 300 hours of operation, or once a season in boats with seasonal use, especially in salt waters where corrosion and cavitation accelerate material deterioration. Carrying out this replacement preventively constitutes an investment that avoids costly repairs due to thermal damage to the engine and unforeseen stops in navigation.
