Description

Function and technical context

The Over 1 Inch Impeller Remover is a specialized tool designed to facilitate the safe and damage-free removal of rubber impellers housed in the cooling water pump of your outboard or inboard engine. Impellers are the central element of the seawater cooling system: their flexible vanes propel the cooling fluid from the water intake to the engine block, maintaining operating temperatures within safe ranges. Attempting to remove a damaged or stuck impeller without the proper tool can cause the vanes inside the pump body to break, generating fragments that migrate to the cooling circuit and cause blockages or damage to the thermostat and heat exchanger. This puller is specifically designed for impellers larger than 1 inch in diameter, providing the grip and leverage needed for clean removal without compromising the pump body or shaft.

When to use and replace this tool?

It is recommended to use this extractor in each intervention on the water pump, especially during seasonal preventive maintenance or every 300 hours of navigation, which is the usual replacement interval for the neoprene impeller in most marine engines. Symptoms that indicate the need to act on the impeller include engine overheating, low water flow through the cooling spout or its complete absence, loss of power due to thermal limitation and possible temperature alarms on the instrument panel. Having the appropriate extractor in the onboard maintenance kit allows you to carry out the impeller change in a professional manner, avoiding more serious breakdowns at sea resulting from a cooling failure.
