BLISTER WITH 8 6mm LUBRICATORS
Description
Function and technical context
The 6 mm grease nipples are the elements that allow lubricating grease to be introduced under pressure into the articulation points, pivots and bearings of the steering, trim, tilt and transmission systems of outboard and auxiliary outboard motors. Working in the manual or grease gun lubrication system, these grease nipples—also called grease fittings or nipples—ensure that the grease reaches the interior of the metal joints directly, forming a protective film that reduces friction and wear between moving surfaces. If these grease nipples are clogged, broken or missing, the grease does not penetrate correctly and the articulated parts are left without lubrication, which accelerates galvanic corrosion in marine environments and can lead to steering sticking, premature bushing wear or failures in the trim and tilt mechanism. The blister format with 8 units makes it easy to always have spare parts available to undertake the complete maintenance of a boat or for the professional nautical workshop.
When to replace this part?
The most common symptoms that indicate that a grease fitting needs to be replaced are: resistance or inability to insert grease with the grease gun, presence of rust or visible corrosion on the nipple, deformation of the head that prevents the correct coupling of the gun, or loss of grease from the base of the grease fitting instead of towards the inside of the grease point. It is recommended to check the condition of all grease nipples during each seasonal maintenance - at least once a year - and replace them preventively if there is any sign of deterioration, given that the saline marine environment significantly accelerates their corrosion. Having a blister of spare parts on board or in the workshop avoids interrupting the maintenance operation and ensures that all lubrication points are in perfect condition before launching.
