AIFO REFRIGERATION ANODE
Description
Function and technical context
The TEN02012 cooling anode for Aifo engines is a cathodic protection element integrated into the cooling circuit of the marine engine. Its mission is to sacrifice itself electrochemically to protect the metal components of the block, the cylinder head and the seawater passages against galvanic corrosion, one of the main enemies of marine engines. Being in direct contact with the cooling water, the anode acts as a negative electrode of the galvanic cell, attracting the corrosive attack and thus preserving the structural parts of the circuit.
When to replace this part?
Cooling anodes should be inspected at the beginning of each boating season and replaced when they have lost between 30 and 50% of their mass, without waiting for them to disappear completely, since a depleted anode leaves the internal components of the engine unprotected. In engines operating in salt or brackish water, wear is significantly faster, so a mid-season overhaul is recommended. Replacing the TEN02012 anode preventively is the most economical maintenance measure to avoid serious repairs to the block or heat exchangers of the Aifo engine.
