This cooling anode with plug for 3/8" thread (reference 6L2281) is part of the water cooling system of General Motors marine engines, acting as cathodic protection in the internal passages of the engine block. Its function is to sacrifice itself electrochemically to protect the metal surfaces of the cooling circuit against galvanic corrosion caused by sea or brackish water circulating inside the engine. The integrated plug allows its direct installation in the threaded holes of the block, sealing the circuit while providing anti-corrosion protection.
