Description

Function and technical context

This cooling anode with cap (reference TEN02000T) acts as a galvanic protection element within the cooling circuit of the marine engine, sacrificing itself electrochemically to preserve the internal metal components of the block against corrosion caused by seawater or brackish water. Being integrated directly into the cooling system, it protects metal galleries, jackets and ducts that would otherwise suffer accelerated degradation due to galvanic action. The presence of the plug facilitates its tight accommodation in the block or cylinder head, preventing leaks and ensuring adequate sealing of the cooling circuit throughout the useful life of the anode. If this component is depleted without being replaced, the base metals of the engine are exposed to galvanic corrosion, which can lead to pitting, blockages of the water circuit and irreversible structural damage inside the propeller.

When to replace this part?

The cooling anodes must be inspected at the beginning and end of each nautical season, and replaced when they have lost approximately 50% of their mass, have an irregular, highly eroded surface or have partially detached from the housing. An exhausted anode is also detected indirectly: appearance of corrosion in internal cooling ducts, progressive overheating of the engine or rust deposits in the water circuit. Its preventive replacement is recommended every season in salt or brackish water areas without waiting for visible signs of wear, since the cost of an anode is minimal compared to repairing a corroded engine block.
