Description

Function and technical context

The Racor 30 micron filter element works within the fuel supply system of marine engines, acting as a physical barrier between the tank and the injection or carburetion components. Its particle retention capacity of up to 30 microns positions it as an intermediate solution between coarse prefilters and high precision filters, being especially effective in capturing sediments, deposit oxidation remains, algae and emulsified water that usually contaminate diesel or petrol in marine environments. A filter element in poor condition directly compromises the fuel flow received by the injectors and the fuel pump, and can cause power loss, irregular starts and even the engine stopping while sailing. The correct installation of this element in the corresponding Racor separator guarantees that the precision components of the circuit always work with clean fluid and without impurities that accelerate their premature wear.

When to replace this part?

The most common symptoms that indicate saturation of a marine fuel filter element are the progressive drop in revolutions under load, jerks or irregularities in idling and the illumination of the flow restriction warning light on Racor separators equipped with a vacuum gauge. As a general maintenance guideline, it is recommended to replace the filter element every 200-300 hours of operation or at the beginning of each nautical season if the boat remains inactive for months, since stagnant fuel favors the proliferation of bacteria and fungi that quickly clog the cartridge. Changing the element preventively, before it reaches its saturation limit, avoids breakdowns at sea and protects the investment in the injection pump and injectors, the repair of which is considerably more expensive.
