Description

Function and technical context

The RAC460R2 fuel filter with bleeder is part of the marine diesel feeding system, acting as a protective barrier between the fuel tank and the injection pump. Its main function is to retain solid particles in suspension and separate the emulsified water from the diesel before it reaches the injectors, thus preventing premature erosion of the precision components of the injection system. With a maximum flow rate of 227 liters per hour, this fuel-water separator is sized for medium and large displacement marine diesel engines that require a constant and clean supply of fuel under any navigation conditions. The integrated bleeder allows air to be manually purged from the supply circuit, a critical operation after filter changes or after having consumed the tank until it is empty, guaranteeing reliable start-up and avoiding damage due to cavitation in the injection pump.

When to replace this part?

The most common symptoms of a clogged or deteriorated fuel filter include difficulty starting when cold, progressive loss of power at full speed, jerks or irregularities in torque delivery, and in advanced cases, unexpected engine stops due to a cut in the fuel supply. In marine installations with intensive use, it is recommended to check and replace the filter element every 250-300 hours of operation or at the beginning of each navigation season, paying special attention to the level of water accumulated in the glass. Replacing the filter preventively is the most economical measure to avoid a breakdown in the injection system that could leave the boat immobilized at sea.
