Description

Function and technical context

Antisalt acts as a protective agent and solvent for salt, lime and marine residue deposits that accumulate in seawater cooling circuits, heat exchangers, exhaust elbows, horns and metal surfaces exposed to salt water. Its regular application neutralizes the corrosive action of sodium chloride on aluminum, cast iron, brass and stainless steel, common materials in outboard and inboard engines and auxiliary propellers. The buildup of scale and salt in the cooling ducts reduces the water flow section, causes hot spots and can lead to engine overheating or accelerated galvanic corrosion if not treated in time. Incorporating it into seasonal maintenance is a low-cost preventive measure that extends the life of the engine and cooling system components.

When to use this product?

It is recommended to apply anti-salt spray at the end of each sailing season, before storing the boat, and also after prolonged periods of use in waters with high salinity or in estuaries with the presence of silt and lime. Symptoms indicating excessive salt buildup include higher than usual engine temperatures, reduced cooling water flow visible in the exhaust stream, and signs of corrosion or whitish efflorescence on fittings, manifolds, and drain plugs. For engines sailing in the Mediterranean or the South Atlantic, where salinity is especially aggressive, it is advisable to rinse with anti-salt every 50 hours of navigation or at the end of each long outing. Acting preventively avoids blockages in the thermostat, premature deterioration of the water impeller and costly interventions in the nautical workshop.
