QC10PEPB SPARK PLUG
Description
Function and technical context
The spark plug is the component responsible for generating the electrical spark that ignites the air-fuel mixture within the combustion chamber of the outboard engine. It works directly in the ignition system, supporting continuous cycles of high voltage and extreme temperatures with each explosion. A worn electrode or incorrect gap causes misfires, noticeable loss of power and high fuel consumption. In outboard engines, where reliability on the water is critical, a bad spark plug can leave the boat without propulsion at the least opportune moment.
When to replace this part?
The most common symptoms of a damaged spark plug in an outboard engine are: difficult or irregular starting, jerks and loss of speed at different speeds, unusual vibrations in the engine and excessive smoke from the exhaust. It is recommended to check and replace the spark plugs at each annual seasonal maintenance or every 100 hours of boating, whichever comes first. Replacing them preventively is a low-cost intervention that prevents more serious breakdowns such as flooding of the cylinder or damage to the ignition coil.
