CHAMPION N2C SPARK PLUG
Description
Function and technical context
The spark plug is the element responsible for generating the electrical spark that ignites the fuel and air mixture inside the combustion chamber of the outboard engine. It works in the ignition system, subjected to continuous cycles of high temperature and pressure, and its correct operation directly determines the efficiency of combustion. A worn electrode or an incorrect gap causes misfires, loss of power, increased fuel consumption and difficulties in starting the engine. On outboard engines, where access for on-water repairs is limited, keeping spark plugs in good condition is as important a safety measure as it is performance measure.
When to replace this part?
The most common symptoms of a bad spark plug in an outboard engine include difficult or irregular starting, jerking and loss of power at full load, high fuel consumption, excessive engine vibration or unstable tachometer at idle. It is recommended that the spark plugs be inspected at each seasonal maintenance and replaced every 100 hours of operation or annually, whichever comes first. Replacing the Champion N2C spark plug preventatively is a minimal investment that prevents breakdowns at sea and ensures precise ignition on every outing.
