ANODO LAGRIMA PERNO 1KG (ZN)
Description
Function and technical context
The zinc bolt teardrop anode acts as sacrificial cathodic protection on hulls, propeller shafts, rudders and submerged metal surfaces of vessels. Its function is to attract galvanic corrosion generated by the difference in electrical potential between different metals in contact with water, concentrating the electrochemical wear on the anode itself instead of on the noble parts of the boat. Zinc is the ideal material for boats that navigate in salt water and mixed marine environments, where electrolytic activity is especially aggressive. If this component wears out completely without being replaced in time, the metal parts it protects—propellers, shafts, keel bronzes, hardware—are exposed to accelerated corrosion that can compromise the structural integrity and maneuverability of the boat. The teardrop shape with bolt facilitates firm fixation on flat or slightly curved hull surfaces, ensuring permanent and effective electrical contact throughout the sailing season.
When to replace this part?
The clearest symptom that the zinc anode has exhausted its useful life is the loss of more than 50% of its volume, at which point it no longer offers sufficient protection; If visible corrosion is seen on the propeller shaft, stern hardware or metal keel, it is a sign that the anode has not been replaced for too long. The preventive inspection and replacement should be carried out at least at the beginning of each navigation season, and it is also advisable to inspect it mid-season in areas with high water conductivity or where the boat remains moored next to others with leakage currents. Replacing the anode preventively is the most economical measure to avoid costly repairs on shafts, propellers and submerged structures, the cost of which far exceeds that of this component.
