ANODO LAGRIMA SOLDAR 1.2KG (AL)
Description
Function and technical context
Teardrop-shaped sacrificial anodes for welding act as cathodic protection of hulls and submerged metal structures, attracting electrolytic corrosion to themselves and preserving the base metal of the vessel. Made of high purity aluminum alloy, this anode is especially suitable for salt water and brines, where galvanic corrosion is more aggressive and can compromise the structural integrity of the hull in a short time. Its teardrop-shaped hydrodynamic geometry minimizes drag, making it an optimal solution for boats that require continuous protection without a penalty in performance. By being consumed in a controlled manner, the anode prevents the degradation of rudders, keels, propellers and other submerged metal surfaces, acting as the first line of defense against marine electrolysis. Fastening by welding guarantees permanent and reliable electrical contact with the protected metal structure, eliminating the risk of loss of galvanic continuity that mechanical fastening systems can present.
When to replace this part?
The clearest sign that an anode needs to be replaced is when it has lost between 50% and 60% of its mass, at which point its protective capacity decreases dramatically and adjacent metal surfaces are exposed to galvanic corrosion. It is recommended to inspect the anodes at least once a season, generally during the annual stranding, and replace them preventively whenever they present severe erosion, cracks or color changes that indicate depletion of the active material. Replacing the anode before it is completely depleted is the most economical measure to avoid costly damage to rudders, shafts, propellers or the hull itself, especially on vessels sailing in port or marine areas with high underwater electrical activity.
