ANODO OVAL SOLDAR 12KG (ZN)
Description
Function and technical context
Sacrificial anodes are the galvanic shield of any boat: being made of high-purity zinc, they corrode preferentially over the structural metals of the hull, tail shaft, rudder or propellers, preventing electrolytic corrosion from destroying these more expensive parts. This oval welding anode is designed to be permanently attached by direct welding to steel or iron surfaces, ensuring continuous and uninterrupted electrical contact which is essential for effective cathodic protection. Its oval format facilitates the uniform distribution of protection on flat or slightly curved hull surfaces, being especially suitable for steel hulls of work boats, fishing vessels, tugboats and metal construction yachts operating in salt or brackish waters.
When to replace this part?
The clearest sign that a zinc anode needs replacement is the visible reduction in its mass: when the anode has lost approximately half of its volume, it has exhausted its protective capacity and must be replaced immediately so that the hull and metal appendages are not exposed to galvanic corrosion. The inspection and replacement of the anodes should be carried out at least once a season, coinciding with the annual beaching, although in areas of high salinity or very conductive waters it may be necessary to inspect them every six months. A consumed anode that is not replaced in time can lead to deep pits in the hull, deterioration of the tail shaft or damage to the propeller, breakdowns whose repair more than multiplies the cost of a simple preventive anode.
