BARRAS LISAS Ø 10 L. 400 (ZN)
Description
Function and technical context
Smooth zinc bars are cathodic protection elements designed to be mounted on the hull, keel or metal structure of the vessel, acting as sacrificial anodes in the form of a cylindrical bar. As zinc is a more electrochemically active metal than steel, aluminum or bronze, it is this material that preferentially corrodes when galvanic corrosion occurs in the marine environment, thus protecting the noble metal surfaces of the boat. With a diameter of 10 mm and a length of 400 mm, these bars are suitable for installations that require continuous protection along a specific structural area, such as shafts, codastres, rudders or cooling channels. Its correct installation and periodic replacement is essential to avoid accelerated degradation of critical metal parts of the hull and submerged systems.
When to replace this part?
Zinc stick anodes should be inspected at least once a season, usually at beaching or annual hull maintenance. The clearest sign that they need replacement is when they have lost between 50% and 60% of their mass: at that point their cathodic protection capacity is significantly reduced and the components they protect are exposed to galvanic corrosion. If pitting, erosion, or intense whitish discoloration is observed on adjacent metal surfaces, it is likely that the anode is depleted or electrical contact has been lost. It is recommended to preventively replace these bars at the beginning of each season, especially in areas of high salinity or with high galvanic currents in marine areas; Delaying change can lead to costly damage to shafts, propellers or rudders.
