ANODO PLACA 210X (AL)
Description
Function and technical context
The plate-shaped sacrificial anodes act as active galvanic protection on the hulls and metal structures of boats, preventing electrolytic corrosion from destroying more noble components such as propellers, shafts, rudders or the hull itself. This aluminum anode works in the boat's cathodic protection system, offering an excellent relationship between protection capacity and durability in salty and brackish waters. Being made of aluminum, it is ideal for marine environments where magnesium would be consumed in excess and zinc could be passivated in warm or polluted waters. Its plate geometry facilitates direct installation on flat surfaces of the hull or on keels, guaranteeing optimal electrical contact with the structure to be protected.
When to replace this part?
A plate anode should be replaced when it has lost 50% to 60% of its mass, indicating that the cathodic protection is nearing exhaustion and the vessel's metal is exposed to electrolytic corrosion. The recommended inspection is at least once per nautical season—ideally during the annual stranding—and in areas of high salinity or with dispersed electrical currents, a semiannual replacement may be necessary. Changing the anode preventively is the most economical measure to avoid serious damage to propellers, shafts and the hull, the repair of which can involve much higher costs.
