ANODO PLACA RIVA 217X60 (ZN)
Description
Function and technical context
The Riva 217x60 zinc plate anode (Ref. REC8026) is a cathodic protection element designed to be installed directly on the hull or submerged metal surfaces of boats. Its function is to act as a sacrificial metal, oxidizing in a controlled manner to protect the noble metal parts of the boat—propellers, shafts, rudders, transmissions and hull structures—against galvanic corrosion caused by the action of salt or brackish water. Galvanic corrosion is one of the most aggressive and silent processes that affect underwater components, capable of degrading metal structures in a few weeks if there is no adequate cathodic protection. Without a healthy anode, the vessel's noblest metals become the sacrifice point, generating irreversible damage and costly dry-dock repairs. Zinc is the reference material for vessels that navigate in salty or brackish waters, offering an ideal electrochemical potential for this environment.
When to replace this part?
Zinc anodes must be visually inspected at least once a season or each time the boat is beached, and replaced when they have lost between 30% and 50% of their mass, or when they have an excessively irregular, friable or practically consumed surface. An unequivocal sign that the anode has stopped protecting correctly is the appearance of pits or corrosion marks on the adjacent metals: propeller, propeller shaft, motor anode body or transom reinforcements. The professional recommendation is to replace all the boat's anodes preventively at the beginning of each sailing season, regardless of the visual aspect, to guarantee complete cathodic protection throughout the entire period of use and avoid emergency interventions with the boat in the water.
