YAMAHA ANODE 6G1-45251-03
Description
Function and technical context
The sacrificial anode is an essential component in the Yamaha marine engine cathodic protection system. Installed in the motor casing, it acts as a protective barrier against electrochemical corrosion caused by salt water and accelerated oxidation processes in ferrous metals and alloys. Its progressive degradation is intentional: the anode is preferably consumed to prevent corrosion from attacking critical parts of the engine such as the block, cylinder head and cooling ducts. Without this active protection, the entry of salt water into the cooling galleries would accelerate the formation of rust and the loss of structural integrity of the engine.
When to replace this part?
The sacrificial anode must be inspected at the end of each boating season and replaced when it shows a visible reduction in volume, dark discoloration or corrosion deposits on its surface. In salt water and with intense use, degradation is faster and annual preventive change is usually recommended. Performing the change preventively before the start of the season is a highly recommended practice to avoid costly surprises during navigation, since a completely consumed anode leaves the engine exposed to failure due to advanced corrosion.
