The reinforced Ø 50 mm rudder disc anode acts as a galvanic protector in the boat's steering system, sacrificing itself electrochemically to preserve the rudder and its metal fittings against marine corrosion. Made of zinc (ZN), this material is ideal for boats that navigate in salt and brackish water, where the potential difference between different metals in contact with the marine electrolyte accelerates deterioration. The reinforced design of this anode ensures a greater active mass of zinc in a compact disc format, which results in longer lasting cathodic protection on the rudder shaft or stock. If the anode runs out without being replaced in time, the noble components of the rudder—stainless steel, bronze or aluminum—are exposed to electrolytic corrosion, with the consequent risk of pitting, loss of material and structural compromise of the steering system.
