Function and technical context

The zinc anode is the key component of the cathodic protection system in Mase brand marine engines and nautical generators. Its mission is to sacrifice itself electrochemically to protect the noble metal parts of the engine - such as the block, the heat exchanger or the exhaust manifolds - against galvanic corrosion caused by contact with sea or brackish water. Without this sacrificial element, corrosion would directly attack the structural and cooling parts of the marine generator set, compromising its integrity and useful life. The reference MAS80162 is specifically designed for Mase marine generators, guaranteeing the geometry and zinc purity necessary for effective protection.

When to replace this part?

A zinc anode should be inspected at the beginning of each boating season and replaced when it has lost approximately 50% of its mass, at which point it no longer offers sufficient protection. The symptoms of an exhausted or absent anode manifest themselves indirectly: appearance of pitting or visible corrosion on metal surfaces of the engine, whitish deposits in areas of contact with water and, in advanced cases, loss of tightness in the cooling circuit due to piercing corrosion. The preventive replacement of the Mase 80162 zinc anode each season is the most economical measure to avoid serious breakdowns in the marine generator that could require a repair of several thousand euros.
