The forward gear is an essential gear in the Yamaha outboard motor drive system that transmits engine power to the propeller in the forward direction. This component works directly in the gearbox, meshing with other elements of the drive train to convert the rotation of the crankshaft into propulsive movement of the boat. A worn or damaged sprocket causes loss of traction, difficulty shifting into forward gear, clunking noises in the transmission, and in severe cases, the inability to navigate in a forward direction.
