PROPELLER SHAFT 6G1-45611-01
Description
Function and technical context
The propeller shaft is the component that transmits the rotating power of the engine to the propeller, allowing the boat to move through the water. It is a critical part of the propulsion system that must withstand high mechanical stress, continuous vibrations and exposure to the corrosive marine environment. It works in the transmission line between the engine and the propeller, transferring all the power generated by the crankshaft. If this shaft wears out, deforms or fractures, the boat loses propulsion capacity or may be left without steering, representing a serious navigation safety risk.
When to replace this part?
The propeller shaft should be inspected periodically for signs of rust, galvanic corrosion, cracks or visible deformation, especially after stints in salt water. If abnormal vibration in the propulsion, unusual metallic noises coming from the transmission or gradual loss of thrust are detected during navigation, it is likely that the shaft has advanced wear or structural damage. It is recommended to check the condition of the shaft during each seasonal maintenance and, if sailing in corrosive waters or with high salinity, consider its preventive replacement every 5-7 years to avoid unexpected breakages at sea.
