This cooling cover gasket hermetically seals the cooling system cover on Yamaha outboard engines, preventing coolant leaks and the entry of salt water or contaminants into the circuit. It works within the water cooling system, where it maintains the integrity of the coolant passage chamber that surrounds the engine cylinders. Its deterioration or breakage generates progressive leaks that compromise the cooling capacity of the engine and can cause overheating, especially during prolonged navigation or with a high workload.

When to replace this part?

Cooling cover gaskets usually deteriorate due to the continued action of heat and contact with salt water, manifested by visible drips around the cover, gradual loss of coolant or corrosion deposits in the sealing area. It is recommended to inspect the condition of the gasket during each seasonal inspection and replace it preventively every two to three years of regular use, or immediately if signs of aging, cracks or deformation are detected. Changing the gasket for routine maintenance is much cheaper than dealing with an overheated engine or internal corrosion damage.
