The rubber ring is a sealing component located in the cooling circuit of the Yamaha engine, whose main mission is to guarantee the tightness of the hydraulic connections subjected to variable pressure and temperature. This ring works at the interface between elements of the water pump or cooling ducts, preventing coolant leaks that would compromise the thermal dissipation of the engine. If the ring loses elasticity or degrades, the resulting leaks cause progressive loss of coolant, leading to engine overheating, internal corrosion and, in extreme cases, propeller seizure.

When to replace this part?

Rubber rings should be inspected with each seasonal inspection and renewed when they show signs of hardening, discoloration or permanent deformation after disassembly. The most obvious symptom is the appearance of drips under the engine or an abnormal drop in the coolant level without apparent cause. It is recommended to replace preventively after 5-7 years of use or when intervening on the cooling system, since a proactive renewal avoids emergency repairs in navigation and protects other sensitive components such as the thermostat and the circulation pump.
