LOWER SEAL CRANKSHAFT YAMAHA 93102-30M05
Description
Function and technical context
The lower crankshaft seal is a critical component of the engine's sealing system, sealing the area where the crankshaft passes through the block. This seal prevents lubricating oil from escaping to the outside and water or contaminants from entering the inside of the engine. In Yamaha marine engines, the lower seal operates under conditions of fluctuating pressure and temperature, constantly subjected to vibrations and rotary motion. Failure to do so would compromise the integrity of the lubrication system, causing oil loss, progressive overheating of the crankshaft and, in extreme cases, water entering the crankshaft chamber with catastrophic damage to the engine.
When to replace this part?
Common symptoms of lower seal wear include visible oil stains under the engine, progressive loss of oil level without apparent leaks in other areas, and in advanced cases, emulsification of the oil due to water ingress. Although there is no universal fixed interval, it is recommended to inspect the seal during each annual seasonal maintenance check, especially if the engine has accumulated more than 800 hours of operation or has been idle for long periods. Preventive replacement as part of a general overhaul avoids costly repairs and ensures the tightness of the engine during the next boating season.
