The turbocharger is the component responsible for forcing a greater amount of air into the engine cylinders, increasing the density of the combustion mixture and, with it, the power and performance of the engine. It works within the intake and exhaust system: it uses the energy of the exhaust gases to drive a turbine that compresses the inlet air. In high-displacement industrial and marine engines such as the Volvo Penta TAD and TWD series, the turbo is a critical element to maintain design performance; Its deterioration causes drastic drops in power, excessive fuel consumption and the risk of serious damage to the engine block due to incomplete combustion. When to replace this part?

The most common symptoms of a bad turbocharger include blue or black smoke from the exhaust, a noticeable loss of thrust or slow engine response when accelerating, a high-pitched metallic noise or abnormal whistling noise coming from the running turbo, and the presence of oil in the intake tract.
