At the same time, it regulates the output voltage to prevent overloads that could damage the battery or on-board electronic equipment. A failure in this component can result in a battery that does not charge correctly, in voltage fluctuations that are harmful to the boat's electronics or, in the worst case, in the complete discharge of the battery during navigation, leaving the ignition system and on-board instruments inoperative.

The most common symptoms of a rectifier regulator in poor condition are: a battery that does not maintain a charge despite being in good condition, a charge light that comes on intermittently or continuously, fuses that blow repeatedly in the electrical circuit or unstable voltage readings on the control panel voltmeter. It is recommended to check its condition during each seasonal maintenance, especially in engines with several accumulated hours of use, since heat and marine conditions accelerate the wear of electronic components.
