OVAL ANODE 85x40x15
Description
Function and technical context
Sacrificial anodes are the main cathodic protection system on boats, acting as an electrochemical shield that attracts galvanic corrosion before it attacks the structural metal parts of the hull, propeller, shafts or engine legs. This oval zinc anode, with dimensions 85x40x15 mm, is designed to be mounted on hull surfaces or submerged structures where the oval geometry optimizes the distribution of galvanic protection in the installation area. By degrading in a controlled manner, the anode consumes its metallic mass instead of allowing the noble metals of the assembly – bronze, stainless steel, aluminum – to suffer the electrolytic attack that causes pitting, loss of thickness and structural failures. Its correct installation guarantees the integrity of all submerged metal components during the navigation season.
When to replace this part?
The clearest sign that the anode has completed its cycle is the loss of more than 50% of its volume: when it appears reduced, cracked or with its surface completely eroded, it no longer offers effective protection. It is recommended to inspect the hull anodes at each beaching and replace them at least once a season, regardless of their visual condition, especially in salt water or high conductivity areas. Renewing the anode preventively before each launch is the most economical practice compared to the cost of repairing a pitted propeller, a corroded shaft or an engine leg damaged by uncontrolled galvanic corrosion.
