Function and technical context

Sacrificial anodes for flaps are galvanic protection elements designed specifically for the surfaces of boat trim tabs or flaps. This 60mm Seipem anode works in the stern trim control system, protecting itself instead of the structural metals of the flap, thus preventing electrolytic corrosion that salt water and the marine environment aggressively accelerate. Without effective galvanic protection on these moving parts, the aluminum or steel of the flaps suffers progressive deterioration that compromises both its mechanical resistance and the hydrodynamic response of the boat.

When to replace this part?

The clearest symptom that the flap anode is exhausted is a visible reduction in its mass – when it has lost approximately 50% of its volume it must be replaced without delay – or the appearance of pitting and superficial corrosion on the flap body itself. It is recommended to inspect and replace the flap anodes at the beginning of each nautical season, especially in salt or brackish water navigation areas. Replacing the anode preventively is the most economical action to avoid irreversible deterioration of the trim flaps, whose repair or replacement involves a much higher cost.
