Function and technical context
Sacrificial anodes for flaps act as an electrochemical shield on the submerged metal surfaces of the trim fins (flaps), protecting them from galvanic corrosion that occurs when different metals coexist in contact with salt or brackish water. This zinc anode, with dimensions of 130x50x17 mm and reference TEN00213, is installed directly on the flap structure, becoming the element that corrodes instead of the base metal of the fin. Without adequate cathodic protection, the flaps can deteriorate rapidly, compromising their hydrodynamic functionality and forcing repairs or replacement of parts at a much higher cost.
When to replace this part?
The clearest symptom that the flap anode needs replacement is the visible reduction in its mass: when it has lost approximately 50% of its volume, it has reached the limit of its useful life and must be replaced immediately. Preventive inspection and replacement is recommended at least once a season, before each launch, especially in boats that navigate in waters with high salinity or that remain docked for a long time. Changing the anode at each annual tune-up is the most economical measure to avoid corrosion damage to the flaps, the repair of which is significantly more expensive.
