Description

Function and technical context

The Bravo Shift Shaft Bushing Assembly Wrench (part number 91-17273) is a specialized tool designed for the removal and installation of the bushings and bearings housed in the shift shaft of MerCruiser Bravo transmissions. It acts directly on the stereo transmission system, specifically in the area of the gearbox where the gear selection shaft works under continuous mechanical stress. Without this specific tool, tightening and removing the bushings can cause irreversible damage to the housing adjustment surfaces, compromising the tightness and correct functioning of the shifting mechanism. Its geometry allows the necessary force to be applied precisely, avoiding the deterioration of high-cost components such as the axle itself or the transmission body.

When to use this tool?

This assembly wrench is essential whenever signs of wear are detected in the Bravo transmission shift system: difficulty engaging gears, excessive play in the selector shaft, abnormal noises during gear shifting or oil leaks from the shift shaft seal. It is recommended to check the condition of the shift shaft bushings during each major maintenance intervention on the sterno-drive transmission, especially after seasons of intensive use or before any disassembly of the Bravo box. Having the right tool before starting work avoids improvisations that lead to costly breakdowns and unnecessary stranding times.
