Description

Function and technical context

The 91-17275A1 Assembly Wrench is a specialized shop tool designed exclusively for the assembly and removal of retainers and bushings on MerCruiser Bravo drive units. It acts directly on the sealing components of the driveshaft and sterndrive, ensuring that the seals are seated with the correct depth and centering, without damaging the housing surfaces. Without the use of this specific tool, incorrect assembly of the seals can cause oil leaks from the transmission into the water or the entry of salt water into the case, accelerating the deterioration of bearings, gears and the shaft itself. Its use is essential during the inspection, repair or replacement of components in Bravo One, Bravo Two, Bravo Three tail units and their high-performance XR and XZ variants.

When to use this tool?

This assembly wrench is necessary every time you work on the rear transmission of a Bravo unit to replace shaft seals, guide bushings or components of the tail seal group. The need to act on these elements is usually detected by symptoms such as the presence of emulsion or turbidity in the transmission oil, loss of lubricant level without visible external leak, or signs of corrosion on the propulsion shaft caused by water ingress. It is recommended to check the condition of the seals and bushings at each annual seasonal maintenance or every 100-150 hours of navigation, since a deteriorated seal can compromise the entire transmission and lead to a high-cost repair outside the shipyard.
