Description
Function and Technical Context
This kit of seals and gaskets acts as the outboard motor’s sealing system, preventing saltwater or river water from entering internal components and preventing lubricant leaks to the outside. The seals operate at the rotation points of the crankshaft and other shafts, while the gaskets ensure a tight seal between the fixed surfaces of the block and the cover. A failure in any of these components can lead to oil contamination with water, accelerated corrosion of internal parts, and a gradual loss of lubrication pressure, seriously compromising the engine’s service life. This kit includes all the sealing components needed for a complete overhaul, eliminating the need to purchase individual parts with different part numbers.
When should this part be replaced?
The most common symptoms indicating deterioration of seals and gaskets in an outboard motor are the appearance of oil stains in the bilge or under the motor, the presence of water in the crankcase oil (milky or foamy-looking oil), and abnormal vibrations or noises associated with poor lubrication. It is recommended to check the condition of these components during every seasonal maintenance or after periods of prolonged storage, as rubber ages even if the engine is not in use. Replacing the kit as a preventive measure during a scheduled inspection is significantly more cost-effective than dealing with a breakdown caused by water ingress into the engine while underway.
