Description

Function and technical context

The propeller separator is a component of the outboard motor transmission system that is located between the propeller hub and the propulsion shaft, acting as a coupling and mechanical protection element. Its main function is to absorb the impacts and vibrations transmitted from the propeller to the propulsion train during navigation, especially in the event of impacts with submerged objects or during maneuvers with a high load. If this separator deteriorates or fractures, the transmission of torque becomes irregular, which can cause abnormal vibrations, loss of propulsive efficiency and even damage to the transmission shaft and pinion. This is a critical piece to guarantee the integrity of the propulsion assembly in mid-range Suzuki engines.

When to replace this part?

The most common symptoms of propeller spacer wear or breakage include unusual vibrations in the tiller or transom, metallic noises when accelerating, propeller slippage, or sudden loss of engine thrust with no apparent cause. It is recommended to inspect this component during each seasonal maintenance and replace it preventively if it presents cracks, deformations or excessive play, since its failure during navigation can leave the boat without propulsion and lead to costly repairs to the axle or gearbox.
