Function and technical context

Impeller 500329 (ref. CEF500329) is the central element of the water pump of the seawater cooling system in Suzuki outboard engines of the DF and DT series. Its flexible vanes, made of high-resistance rubber, generate the necessary flow rate for the cooling water to circulate from the water intake to the exchanger and cylinder heads, maintaining the engine temperature within safe working ranges. A deteriorated impeller drastically reduces coolant flow, which can lead to overheating, damaged head gaskets, and even engine seizure if not detected in time.

When to replace this part?

The most common symptoms of an impeller in poor condition are the overheating warning light on, the absence or reduction of the pilot water jet (the fine jet visible on the outside of the outboard motor), and in advanced cases, the thermostat tripping or loss of power due to thermal protection. It is recommended to replace the impeller every 200-300 hours of use or every two seasons, whichever comes first, since the rubber vanes lose elasticity even without use due to the aging of the material. Anticipating failure prevents costly navigation breakdowns and protects critical engine components.
